As Concordia University Irvine nears its 50th anniversary, the Regents, Trustees, and key leaders recently announced a new mission statement and related core convictions reaffirming Concordia’s faith commitment and educational purpose. The mission statement declares: Concordia University Irvine, a comprehensive Lutheran Christian university guided by Christ’s Great Commission, develops wise, honorable, and cultivated citizens to serve society and the church.
Looking forward to Concordia’s next half-century of excellence, leadership recognizes that an effective mission statement must be grounded in deeply shared values and convictions. Accordingly, Concordia simultaneously announced five core convictions. Concordia serves its students, colleagues, and community by being:

Grounded in its mission and guided by its core convictions, Concordia fulfills a distinctive role among Southern California’s higher education institutions. Rooted in the 500-year-old Lutheran intellectual tradition, Concordia pursues a middle-way between secularism and sectarianism. The university’s Christian faculty and staff commit to living out the Lutheran-Christian confession while remaining open to all students who are willing to engage with its mission.
